Man Prohibited From Having Guns Admits Having One In Hamilton Twp

A Salem County man with a history of weapons convictions admitted to having a handgun in his car when he was stopped on the Atlantic City Expressway in Hamilton Township. According to BreakingAC.com, Akeem Statin, now 36, was drunk and driving more than 100 mph when he was pulled over around 5:30 a.m. Oct. 27, 2024, according to court records. State Police had received calls about his erratic driving, and stopped him eastbound around mile marker 17.2.

City Dwellers Arrested

Following a drug probe on Friday, police detained two city dwellers. Police raided a house in the 500 block of St. Louis Avenue and arrested Jamie Winters, 43, and Kody Ryan, 37. The State Police helped. Each of the two was accused of four counts of receiving stolen property, three counts of possessing drug paraphernalia with intent to use, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession with intent to distribute, and unlawful possession of a weapon while committing a drug offense.

PTO Pay Repayment

The Chancery Division of the Atlantic County Superior Court ruled that a former Pleasantville company administrator must reimburse approximately $84,000 in accrued sick time that was paid in violation of state law. According to a report released in November by the Office of the State Comptroller, Linda Peyton was wrongfully paid $83,986 for accumulated sick leave that she was not legally entitled to, as well as an additional $81,737 in severance under a local policy that the agency deemed wasteful and susceptible to abuse.

Cape May Vacant Council Seat

Following Patrick Rosenello's appointment to the Cape May County Board of Commissioners, Ronald Simone was chosen to occupy the vacant City Council seat. Simone was appointed by the council on Tuesday. Joseph Rullo was named president by the council during the meeting as well. Rosenello served as president before. Simone worked in the city's administrative office and as a lifeguard before being appointed. Up until 2022, he was the city administrator. Since 2014, Rullo has been a council member.
