When they opened their most recent electricity bills, several Atlantic City Electric customers were startled to see that the cost of maintaining the lights had increased by a hundredfold. According to several of the impacted subscribers who resided in Cape May County, the miscalculation caused them to receive bills of $77,000 and $18,229 when their monthly expenses would normally be closer to the $770 or $182 range. Last week, customers started receiving the invoices. Some used social media to caution neighbors to check their statements, while others criticized the company for failing to verify its own work.
