According to Fitch Ratings, Spirit Airlines' decision to cease operations earlier this month may result in a worse bond rating for the South Jersey Transportation Authority. Because of the decrease in passenger traffic brought on by the airline's collapse, the ratings group has placed the authority in a Rating Watch Negative. According to Fitch, a rating watch denotes an increased likelihood of a rating change. After failing to reach a deal on a government bailout, Spirit shut down on May 2.
