Several neurosurgeons at Shore Medical Center requested a new robotic device from their administration, claiming it improves accuracy and shortens recuperation times for common spine procedures. The $2 million investment was not a difficult choice, according to Shore's president and CEO, David R. Hughes. "Our excellent spine doctors, who do this, came to us and said, 'You've got to have this robot,'" Hughes stated. The medical facility is now the first in New Jersey to provide the technology thanks to the acquisition. There are only 25 of the robot-assisted devices in use at various healthcare facilities around the nation, some of which are located at large hospitals in Philadelphia.
