Rowan University Layoff

Clinical psychologist Julie Harrison, who works with abused children in South Jersey, got a letter from Rowan University titled "Notice of Layoff." The letter dated May 12 stated that she would no longer be able to work as a teacher, researcher, or provider in Camden County "due to the loss of state appropriation funding." Harrison is employed by the Rowan-Virtua Child Abuse Research Education and Service Institute (CARES), which does research on the topic and offers assessment, treatment, and other services to South Jersey children who have been abused. The announcement followed Gov. Mikie Sherrill's proposal to reduce the program's $1.85 million line item in her state budget blueprint.
