Ocean City's public safety building is still standing over a century after it was first constructed as a schoolhouse in the late 1800s. The police station at 835 Central Ave. will be demolished and replaced with a new public safety structure in the spring, according to proposals announced by the City Council in November. However, city authorities now claim that they have decided to delay demolition until after Labor Day due to safety concerns and the possibility of interruptions during the busy summer tourism season.
