Nearly two years into its preliminary phase, the Cape May County Board of Commissioners is preparing its pitch for millions in funding to replace three Ocean Drive bridges. The Press of Atlantic City reports project consultant Michael Baker International gave a report to the board June 23 on the status of the Middle Thorofare Bridge, which connects the Diamond Beach section of Lower Township with the mainland and which the board determined in December should be the first of the three bridges to be replaced. The bridge, built in 1939, experiences 10 to 40 daily openings.
