Jerry Blavat

Jerry" Blavat, "The Geator with the Heater" - a Philadelphia and South Jersey icon, for almost 70 years was a major influence on the popular music scene introducing numerous artists to the world via his tv show, his radio shows, his live events and dances.
In 1953, Jerry debuted on the original Bandstand on WFIL-TV in Philadelphia. He managed tours, worked as Don Rickels valet and eventually got his start in radio in 1960. By 1963, his show was syndicated in Atlantic City, Camden, Trenton, Pottstown, Wilmington and Allentown. He said he refused to follow a playlist, "playing music from the heart, not a research chart." He was a partner in his own record label, he owned a chain of record stores based in Philadelphia. And from 1965 to 1967, Blavat produced and hosted a weekly television show in Philadelphia called The Discophonic Scene. He guest-starred on numerous tv shows and appeared in movies. Most of all he loved the music and connecting with the people who loved it as much as he did. In 1972, Blavat purchased a nightclub in Margate and named it "Memories"… and for the last 50 years generations of us have gone to dance, celebrate the music and party with Jerry. He always felt that music brought people together and if you ever spent a summer night at Memories in Margate, you know that to be true. The Geator always said to “keep on rockin…because you only rock once”. Well Jerry…rocked his entire life. We love you Jerry and we thank you for your music, for your friendship…and for the Memories.
